As I am embarking this journey creating good, clean habits in my life, I need to know which habits are the right ones to practice. I decided to google search the term habit and a million options popped up on how to make something into a habit to improve your life.
Then I found a link in Wikipedia that talks about The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which I found here.
These 7 habits come from Stephen R. Covey, who is the author of the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I checked out his website, and let me tell you, I was blown away at his time management skills and planning. This book became one of the top 10 most influential management books ever.
It is all about personal change. Even though it was first published in 1989, many people still try to make a habit all of the skills he provided.
If I could summarize the habits into 2 habits total, it would be this:
- Don’t just sit around. Take action.
- Plan what you are taking action about. You gotta think things through. Do one thing in the correct order before you start the next thing to get where you want to go.
So, for now I am going to concentrate on these two habits. Thinking about it, I already did. I took action, and decided to make this blog. I don’t have a plan yet, but I did think things through in regards to time I will be spending on this blog, and the topics I will be writing about that can benefit me and benefit others in the long run.
In a separate post, I decided to write the 7 habits so I can study them when I need a refresher. You can find it here.
Final Note: I was intrigued by Covey’s concept of time management. This is what he wrote:
At the start of every week, write a two-by-two matrix on a blank sheet of paper where one side of the matrix says “urgent” and “not urgent” and the other side of the matrix says “important” and “not important.” Then, write all the things you want to do that week.
I am going to give it a try and see if this will help me realize what is most important to me, but not as urgent. I believe these require more attention for successful time management.
Let me know what you think and comment below. Hope to read what habits that helped you improve your life.
